Racist Math Problems For Third Graders
Some of the questions were:
“If Frederick got two beatings per day, how many beatings did he get in one week?”
Another question read, “Each tree had 56 oranges. If eight slaves pick them equally, then how much would each slave pick?”
A further question asked how many baskets of cotton Frederick filled.

Re: Racist Math Problems For Third Graders
The social studies lesson in the homework is a good Idea, but come on math questions about slavery and Frederick getting beatings not a good idea by any means. The teacher obviously did not look over the assignment before handing it out and that just goes to show how much teachers care about the kids. The teacher should have looked at it and gone to her superior with it and said "I will not give this to my students." I don't know who thought up those questions but they really need to consider boundaries. I would have put questions like "If Christopher Columbus sailed ____ miles _____ day and sailed ____ miles the next day, how many miles did he sail altogether?"

Re: Racist Math Problems For Third Graders
They cannot convince me that the teacher did not read the assignment before handing them out to the class. This is highly inappropriate!!
